Dana Holbrook

Dana Holbrook, BA JD

Director

dana@holbrooklaw.co.nz

I have practiced law in New Zealand since 1997 and specialise in all areas of Family Law. I regularly appear in the Family Court and have appeared in the High Court on various matters.

I am an assigned Legal Aid Provider and am happy to discuss with you whether you might be eligible for Legal Aid. I am also on the Lawyer for Child list and receive appointments from the Ministry of Justice to represent children in Family Court proceedings.

I completed a course named Collaborative Practice held by the University of Technology, Sydney, Australia. Collaborative law uses a different approach to resolving disputes without involving litigation; the focus is on the parties being able to reach an agreeable solution to their particular issues. One of the many positive aspects of Collaborative Law is the parties make their own decisions rather than having a Judge make a decision, which either one or both parties disagree with.

I graduated from Auckland University in 1992 with a Batchelor of Laws and a Batchelor of Arts majoring in sociology. I have worked primarily in legal property matters including Trust, Wills, Estate, Relationship Property and Residential & Commercial Conveyancing.

I formerly owned a legal practice in Takapuna for 21 years and have recently sold the firm to become a consulting senior lawyer.  I am now working part-time with Holbrook Law.

I have written two books: The First Home Buyers Guide which is available in libraries throughout New Zealand; and The Estate Planner which is  a book in which you can record personal information in one place to make the administration of your estate cost effective, faster and easier.

I have a real passion to pass on to others the knowledge I have gained over the years and I am able to do so through my books, through speaking engagements and by giving clients legal advice.
